How can a city foster diversity and make its residents feel that they all belong? How do residents cope (effectively) with changes in their environment? And what role does smart technology play in city governance? These questions are central to the Erasmus Initiative ‘Vital Cities and Citizens’. We are investigating the conditions that are essential for a city when it comes to equality, safety, sustainability and harmonious coexistence.
Inclusive Cities and Diversity
Under the theme of Inclusive Cities and Diversity, we are investigating the role that residents, policymakers, activists, businesses and the media play in determining how diverse and inclusive a city is.
Resilient Cities and People
Resilient Cities and People focuses on how citizens deal with changes in their environment.
Smart Cities and Communities
In the Smart Cities and Communities theme, we explore the role that smart technology plays in city governance.
Wijkwijs: by and for residents
Wijkwijs is a programme in which local residents, together with researchers from Erasmus University Rotterdam, Delft University of Technology, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences and Erasmus Medical Centre, work in various neighbourhoods to develop knowledge aimed at better understanding and tackling local issues.
Wijkwijs was established and is funded by the Vital Cities and Citizens and Resilient Delta initiatives.
