The Community for Learning & Innovation (CLI) gives lecturers from Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) the opportunity to apply for a fellowship. With this fellowship, they research educational innovation, or carry out an educational project. On this page you can read more about the CLI Fellowship of Philipp Cornelius (RSM) in which he investigates behavioural and technical guardrails for student learning with AI.
Written assignments are at the core of education. However, generative AI is threatening their usefulness for learning and assessment, because students can use generative AI to write assignments for them. In this project, we will investigate whether and how two guardrails can reduce AI plagiarism. The two guardrails represent both a behavioral (strategic messaging) and a technical approach (availability of copy & paste). We will study under which conditions these guardrails work and how they affect student and teacher perceptions of AI use and learning. The results will give teachers an easy-to-use toolbox that they can employ in their courses.
