CLI's mission put into practice

The Community for Learning & Innovation (CLI) believes that successful innovation projects require ongoing dialogue between key stakeholders, such as teachers, students and professional support staff.

The CLI has built this dialogue into networking events and different types of communities, where people exchange ideas and develop practical proposals. Read more and get involved!

Community of Practice on Assessment

In this community, members critically reflect on assessment and explore ways to make the process more meaningful, fair and informative for students.

This Community of Practice (CoP) focuses on the role of assessment in good education. Members critically reflect on current assessment practices and explore ways to make assessment more meaningful, fair and helpful for learning.

Participants are invited to bring their own questions, cases and examples from practice, which help shape the meetings. The community also looks at current developments, such as the impact of generative AI on assessment and changes in the student population, including a possible decrease in the number of international students.

The CoP is organised by the CLI and led by dr. Rob Kickert (pictured).

This community of teachers encourages curiosity, engagement, action and collaboration around game based learning in education.

Game-Based Learning Community 2025

Through this community of teachers, founded by ErasmusX and now facilitated by the CLI, curiosity, interest, action and collaboration around Game-Based Learning (GBL) in education are encouraged.

Members of the community have already developed impactful GBL projects in areas such as law, business, psychology and other disciplines. By sharing experiences, members create concrete case studies and open up new opportunities for collaboration within and beyond Erasmus University Rotterdam. In this way, they help to renew how students experience education.

Objectives

  • Support teachers and researchers in helping students learn in new, playful and innovative ways.
  • Explore new educational game concepts in interactive sessions with experts from different sectors.
  • Identify methods and approaches which, based on research, increase enjoyment and engagement for both students and teachers.
  • Encourage the development of new GBL projects and collaborations between community members.

Results

  • The main GBL stakeholders at EUR are now connected in one network and are building a shared knowledge base that inspires other GBL enthusiasts.
  • So far, 7 sessions have been organised with guest speakers from different sectors, including the Dutch serious game development market, researchers from several universities and representatives from most EUR faculties.
  • These 7 sessions have led to 4 new GBL projects and collaborations.

Other communities

In addition to these communities, the CLI organises and supports the following internal networks within Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR):

  • Educational Innovation Meeting: a community of Learning & Innovation consultants and other educational support staff from faculties and services. They meet regularly to connect innovative ideas with practical solutions for educational challenges.
  • Students-for-Students: a network of EUR students and student associations who develop educational initiatives for fellow students.
  • DEVELOP: a community focused on improving the onboarding process of EUR teachers in Canvas.
  • Taskforce AI in Education: a network with representatives from all EUR faculties and services, focused on sharing knowledge and aligning activities around AI in education.
