The exhibition will be officially opened on June 1 at 4:00 PM by Ellen van Schoten, Vice President of the Executive Board and Portfolio Holder for Art at EUR.
The exhibition is part of the Arts & Health Festival, which will take place on Friday, June 12, on the EUR Woudestein campus. On the same day, the symposium The Art of Healing will be held, followed by the inaugural lecture of Tineke Abma, who will deliver her lecture under the same title upon accepting the endowed chair “Kunst en Zorg” (Art and Care) at EUR. This chair is made possible in part by Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM), the healthcare organization Cordaan, and Museum van de Geest (Museum of the Mind).
Outsider Art
The English term Outsider Art originates from the concept of Art Brut (raw art), introduced by the French artist Jean Dubuffet. Outsider Art is generally defined as art created outside the established art-historical canon, characterized by a personal and independent visual language, free from dominant trends, preferences, or fashions in the art world. As such, Outsider Art challenges conventional classifications, movements, and categories within established art discourse. The often highly authentic bodies of work produced by Outsider Art artists continue to engage and inspire fellow artists as well as a growing audience.
