We bewegen ons allemaal dagelijks door de stad zonder al te veel na te denken over verkeerslichten, bewakingscamera's en andere ‘dataverzamelaars’ die bijhouden wat we doen. Toch worden we voortdurend in de gaten gehouden. Maar op welke manieren? Met welk doel? Hoe moeten we ons daarbij voelen? En wat voor invloed heeft dit op onze samenleving?

During this Datawalk, Maartje Bijleveld will guide us through the center of Rotterdam to make these practices visible and map out where data flows take place in our city. We are all aware of surveillance cameras, but the sensors that collect data are often hidden away in unassuming grey boxes or buildings. Maartje will show us where they are, how to spot them, and what they are actually used for. You might be surprised about how much data is being collected on you everyday!
Maartje Bijleveld is a Master Student Media Studies at Erasmus School of History, Culture, and Communication and has experience with guiding Datawalks in different cities in the Netherlands. She is currently researching the topic of data and the city as part of her Master Thesis.
