RJ (Roland) Alvarez Chavez, MA

Biography

Phd Student for the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) - Erasmus University. I am currently doing a research titled: “Decolonizing past and present: Understanding queer spiritual/religious practices in the contemporary Peruvian Andean society as a political respond to colonial gender binarism”. This a project focused on memory recovery and epistemic justice with the aim at responding to the structural and systematic process of erasure established in Peru since coloniality. As a sociologist with a MA in development studies, I also have experience in "Public-Private Partnership" projects, with expertise in planning, monitoring, evaluation, accountability and knowledge management. The range of projects I participated covers areas like community health, justice, labor, union organizations, poverty, in Peru and the Andean Region, and in multinational organizations.
As a social researcher, I published three books focusing in hegemonic masculinity (2005), LTGBI Human Rights (2006), and Memory and Diversity (2023), and several multi-disciplinary articles in journals, focusing on topics like inequality, politics, labor, gender, LTGBIQ+ issues, socio-archaeology, history, memory.
Finally, I have been granted national and international recognitions, awards and scholarships as a recognition for my professional and academic trajectory.
