Part of Ruud and Marga Lapré’s art collection is being donated to Erasmus University Rotterdam. Through the Lapré Foundation, the couple are transferring around sixty works of art to the university. The collection includes works by artists such as Karel Appel, Pierre Alechinsky, Corneille, Eugène Brands, Lucebert, Constant, Carl-Henning Pedersen and Roger Raveel.
Ruud Lapré is Professor Emeritus of Health Economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam. He was a co-founder of the Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM) and one of the founders of the Erasmus Centre for Healthcare Governance.
Art collection
The artworks were delivered to Erasmus University in March 2025. The university’s art committee has assessed the works submitted. On the committee’s recommendation, 33 works will be included in the Art Collection of Erasmus University Rotterdam.
The assessment also considered whether certain works would be better suited to the collection of the Rotterdam Lees Kabinet (RLK), which is affiliated with the university.
Lapré Foundation
The donation is being made via the Lapré Foundation, a foundation established to manage an art collection and make art and art-related objects available to museums, universities, healthcare institutions and other non-profit organisations.
Erasmus University has been receiving contributions from the foundation for some time. For example, the Lapré Foundation is supporting the annual Lapré Lecture, organised by the Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management and the Erasmus Centre for Healthcare Governance, for a period of ten years.
Confirmation
The donation was officially confirmed on Tuesday 24 March during the signing of the donation agreement with Annelien Bredenoord, Chair of the Executive Board of Erasmus University Rotterdam. On this occasion, Ruud and Marga Lapré were honoured.
