Bringing language to life on campus

Primary school children running over the bridge on campus Woudestein

IDEA Center hosts Campus TaalTrips (Language Tours) at Erasmus University Rotterdam, an initiative in collaboration with JINC that supports primary school children in expanding their (academic) vocabulary.

Children from Rotterdam primary schools step out of their classrooms and onto Woudestein, for a tour on our campus (inside and outside). Through challenges they engage with words and concepts crucial for the subjects they learn at school. Instead of just reading about words like ‘opinion’, ‘university’ and ‘society’, they experience them in action - bringing language to life through real-world exploration.

A big thank you to our language guides who serve as role models and guide the children through this immersive learning experience. By making complex vocabulary more accessible, we help build a stronger foundation for academic success and equal opportunities in education.

This initiative is part of the commitment of IDEA Center to outreach and fostering equity in access to higher education. Because language is not just about words - it’s about opening doors.
