Would you like to improve your English communication skills in a professional setting? The Language & Training Centre (LTC) has developed a number of speaking skills courses specifically for both employees of Erasmus University and professionals from the business sector.
The specific content of the courses is tailored to the individual needs of the participants. The courses usually consist of eight weekly sessions of two hours.
What course levels are available?
The full range of courses includes the following levels:
The aim of this course is to improve your speaking skills to B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). You will develop the necessary skills and practise a variety of speaking activities tailored to your specific role and work environment. You will receive guidance on the most relevant grammatical points and expand your vocabulary to carry out typical workplace tasks. Possible activities include: greeting and introducing yourself; engaging in small talk; giving (short) presentations; providing progress updates; participating in meetings; giving instructions; and intercultural communication. The exact content will be adapted to the needs of the individual participants.
The weekly speaking activities in class are designed to activate your language use in a relevant context and are complemented by constructive feedback from fellow participants and instructors. Regular practice helps you increase your comfort and confidence in English, ultimately leading to greater fluency. Once you reach B2 level, you will be able to communicate effectively in English and discuss a range of topics relevant to your work or studies.

Please note: the exam (19 June) is optional
The aim of this course is to improve your speaking skills to C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). You will develop the skills needed to speak with greater confidence in a variety of work-related situations, both with native and non-native speakers of English. This often requires the ability to simplify or expand on information, demanding flexibility in your use of both simple and more complex vocabulary. Possible activities include: explaining processes; clarifying questions; leading and participating in meetings; discussing options and making proposals; handling objections; and engaging in more general conversations and discussions. The course is tailored to the needs of the individual participants.
In addition to developing a wider range of expressions, you will also become able to present ideas and discuss topics in greater depth and with more confidence. You will learn to recognise and apply nuances to better understand the tone of a message. Through continuous speaking practice, access to your vocabulary becomes faster, allowing you to communicate more spontaneously and with greater ease. Upon reaching C1 level, participants can communicate effectively using a broad range of expressions and at a higher, more nuanced level.
