Integrating GenAI into your classroom

Inleiding

Generative AI has changed education both in and outside the classroom, but it is not just students who benefit from advances in GenAI as it can be a practical tool for lectures as well.

Since the launch of ChatGPT on November 30th, 2022, Generative AI (GenAI) has changed the face of higher education the world over. While students have benefited from GenAI, lecturers can as well. The University Library and Community for Learning and Innovation offer a short guide that covers how you can integrate GenAI into your classroom, what some of the inherent problems with GenAI are, and how to help your students use GenAI responsibly.

Content

In the module, you will find a short introduction to Generative AI: what it is and what you need to be aware of. Then, you will learn about the impact on teaching and assessment: what you can do to minimize the potential for unauthorized use and how to help students use it responsibly. The module also provides you with a brief introduction to prompting and resources. The focus of this e-learning module is on Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Claude, Deepseek, and Grok, among many others. This module does not cover image generators.

Target group 

This e-module is aimed at lecturers and teaching assistants who want to learn more about the responsible use of GenAI in higher education and the impact it can have on their teaching.

Context

This e-learning was originally created by TLC Science from the University of Amsterdam and adapted for Erasmus University Rotterdam by the Erasmus University Library and the Community for Learning and Innovation. The module is facilitated by Npuls, the National Growth Fund programme, funded by the European Union.
