The Community for Learning & Innovation (CLI) gives lecturers from Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) the opportunity to apply for a fellowship. With this fellowship, they research educational innovation, or carry out an educational project. On this page, you can read more about the CLI Fellowship of Anne Boring, which focuses on developing a new course that teaches economic inequality through real-world practitioner cases.
This project aims to bridge the gap between economic theory and real-world practice in the teaching of economic inequality. It follows the development of a new course, which engages students over seven weeks with themes anchored in real-world case studies developed in partnership with organisations based in The Hague and Rotterdam. Instead of encountering inequality as an abstract concept, students engage with real-world practitioner challenges through the application of economic theory, developing critical thinking, measurement literacy, capability-based reasoning, and an understanding of trade-offs, which are core skills for a well-rounded economics education. The course will be evaluated in collaboration with the Community for Learning and Innovation (CLI), and materials will be made openly available with the ambition of contributing to better teaching practices.
