ProctorExam

ProctorExam helps you set up, monitor and review remote exams in a structured online proctoring workflow. You can use identity checks, webcam and screen monitoring, and, where configured, a second camera setup to support exam integrity in remote assessment settings. The platform is designed to work as a web-based solution that can run standalone or be embedded in an existing assessment environment.

Examples of use in your education

Use ProctorExam when students need to complete a clear setup process before a remotely proctored assessment begins.

You can apply this tool in your teaching in several concrete ways:

  • Exam setup - Provide students with a clear pre-exam checklist for browser, webcam, ID and room setup when they need to complete the technical requirements successfully before the exam starts.

  • Practice run - Organise a short trial or mock setup when students are new to remote proctoring and need to become familiar with the required steps before the actual exam. ProctorExam’s own guidance for institutions emphasises the value of practice tests and clear instructions.

  • ID instructions - Tell students in advance that they will need a valid ID at the start of the proctored session, and explain what form of identification is accepted and how it will be checked.

  • Environment readiness - Ask students to prepare their desk, room and camera positions in advance when the exam requires a compliant testing environment and a clear view of the surroundings.

Tip 1

Communicate the setup steps and timing well in advance, so students know what to prepare before exam day and do not lose time on technical issues at the start.

Tip 2

Offer a short practice opportunity before the real exam whenever possible, because the setup itself can already be a source of stress or confusion in remote assessment.

Use ProctorExam when you need students to understand clearly under which conditions the remote exam will take place.

You can apply this tool in your teaching in several concrete ways:

  • Monitoring format - Explain to students whether the exam uses webcam, screen monitoring and, where relevant, an additional phone or second camera view, so they know what the monitored setup will look like before the exam starts. ProctorExam explicitly distinguishes live proctoring from record-and-review workflows and may use multiple streams, including webcam, screen and mobile camera.

  • Allowed materials - Tell students clearly which materials, devices or room conditions are permitted during the exam, because in proctored remote assessment these conditions may depend not only on your assessment design but also on faculty rules, exam board decisions or exam centre procedures.

  • Support route - Make sure students know where technical support will come from during the exam, because this is usually separate from any academic questions about the assessment itself.

  • Expectation setting - Explain in advance what students should expect if the monitored session shows technical issues or irregularities, so the proctoring process feels predictable rather than opaque.

Tip 1

Be explicit about permitted and non-permitted devices and materials before the exam starts, and frame these as part of the full proctored exam procedure rather than as informal reminders.

Tip 2

Clarify which parts of the procedure are determined locally, for example by faculty policy, the exam board or exam support staff, so students do not assume every decision is made by the course teacher alone.
