Possibilities
Possibilities for PhD students
Most PhD researchers are part of the Erasmus Graduate School of Law (EGSL). Often, they are employed by ESL and receive a personal budget that can be used, among others, for research stays or conference visits. They can make use of the Erasmus+ program to receive some funds for traineeships or a research visit at one of our partner institutions. For training purposes, students need to find an international partner who is willing to host the PhD candidate, so that in the following a training agreement can be concluded so that a small grant can be provided by the Erasmus+ traineeship programme (see below links for more information).
ESL also is coordinating partner of the European Doctorate in Law and Economics (EDLE), which offers a special PhD trajectory offered by four international partner universities. There are a few scholarships available for EDLE students, depending on the chosen home institution.
Depending on the different funding options for international mobility, PhD students can be considered staff or students. Funding can be applied for from both Erasmus+ training and student exchange agreements, but also from the ESL International Mobility funding scheme for PhD candidates and postdocs. Attendance in conferences is not supported by any of these funding opportunities. Here, your personal budget can be used, or the conference visit can be combined with a longer research visit/traineeship, which then can be supported through an Erasmus+ trainings grant. The funding page of the EUR HR provides a good overview of funding opportunities.
Pan-European Seal programs (PES)
Pan-European Traineeships for graduate students: Pan-European Seal programs (PES);
European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) or European Patent Office (EPO).
Possibilities for academic staff
Academic staff can make use of the Erasmus+ programme for training or teaching (staff exchange) purposes, and they can also take part in staff weeks organized by other European partner universities. Junior researchers and PhD candidates can also apply for extra support from the ESL International Mobility funding scheme. It is important to note that participation in conferences cannot be sponsored by any funding scheme, not for PhD students or academic staff. However, if a conference can be combined with a longer research visit at the same location, training or the mobility funds can be applied to. Both the Erasmus+ grant and the mobility funding scheme are not designed to cover all costs. The funding page of HR EUR provides a nice overview of funding opportunities.
Possibilities for Professional Staff
Erasmus+ staff exchange agreements can also be used by professional staff to visit a partner university, for example for the purpose of a job shadowing, attending a language course, or participation in a staff week, organized on different topics by European Partner institutions. You can find a comprehensive overview of the different possibilities, and a link to a specific staff-week Teams Channel, through the staff exchange page of the international HR office.
