Before starting Skill Quest, the Game Master (GM) and players must set up the board and components. Each player selects a character miniature that represents their role in the game. The board, featuring four key locations, the Community Center, Tech Hub, Social Café, and Digital Library, is placed at the center. Next to each location, the corresponding decks of Event, Encounter, and Item Cards are organized. The custom dice, which determines which type of challenge a player will face, should be placed within easy reach. It is important that all players understand the main objective: to collect at least 12 points by completing challenges and visiting all four locations. The GM should also review the guidebook to become familiar with the scoring system, guiding questions, and how to create an engaging, supportive gameplay experience.
During gameplay, players take turns moving to one of the four locations on the board and rolling the custom dice to determine whether they will draw an Event, Encounter, or Item Card. The Game Master presents the chosen card’s scenario and poses 2–3 guiding questions to prompt critical thinking and skill application. Players respond to the challenge by using their character’s abilities, such as communication, empathy, leadership, or online safety, to solve the scenario. The GM then evaluates their performance and awards 1 to 3 points based on the effectiveness and thoughtfulness of their response. Players track their progress on a personal scoreboard. The game continues until all players have completed challenges at each location and accumulated at least 12 points, at which point they are recognized as Skill Masters, having demonstrated the life and digital skills needed for future success.
