You’ve probably heard it before: Artificial Intelligence is neither inherently good nor bad, but nor is it neutral. The real question we’ll explore during this meetup isn’t whether to use AI, but how to critically engage with it.
This workshop invites students, researchers, and staff to go beyond the surface of generative AI tools and dive into the deeper questions surrounding AI systems. Guided by Jop Dispa and inspired by Kate Crawford’s Atlas of AI (2021), we’ll investigate AI as a registry of power that deserves critical interrogation: Who builds these systems; What data powers them; Who profits from them; What political and economic interests shape their development?
By asking these questions, we’ll explore what remains unseen when we focus solely on daily use and productivity. The central theme of this session is ‘critical AI literacy,’ a way of understanding AI not just as a tool, but as a networked political project. Together, we’ll explore how this approach can transform your teaching, research, and decision-making.

About the GenAI Monthly Meetups
GenAI offers amazing opportunities, but also brings along some tough challenges. Instead of working on GenAI by yourself, join a group of curious, collaborative, and friendly fellow EUR GenAI enthusiasts—students, teachers, and staff—for knowledge sharing and hands-on practice.
Collaboration: Connect with like-minded individuals to share successes, tackle challenges and brainstorm solutions in a supportive environment.
Guest speakers: Occasionally we will invite guest speakers who will share the latest insights, practical applications, and future trends in Generative AI.
Flexible Participation: No obligations! Attend at your convenience and engage with us when your schedule allows.
