Research Summer Camp in Law and Digitalization

The Research Summer Camp is designed to strengthen and refine the research agendas of early-career scholars working at the intersection of law and digitalization. The programme is structured around a combination of concise, general courses and hands-on practical work. The courses provide participants with a clear and comprehensive overview of key issues in law and digitalization. Each successful candidate will develop a well-structured draft of their research project by the end of the week.

A distinctive feature of the Summer Camp is the one-on-one pairing of each participant with a senior researcher who will share their expertise on the matter. This mentor will guide the researcher in refining and advancing the research idea that they submitted. Participants who join the Summer Camp will leave not only with a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of law and digitalization but also with a substantially developed research concept.

The Research Summer Camp is primarily designed for early-career scholars and PhD candidates with a keen interest in law and digitalization. While participants may come from various academic faculties, the program maintains a strong focus on the intersection of legal studies and digital technologies. In addition, exceptionally talented LLM students may be considered for participation if spaces remain available.

To apply, interested researchers should submit a research proposal of approximately 750 words (excluding references) to digitalization@law.eur.nl

There are two application deadlines:

  • Early-bird registration closes on March 27, with a fee of €700.
  • Ordinary registration closes on April 22, with a fee of €850.

The fees cover accommodation for four nights, a joint dinner, and a social activity. In addition, up to three full fee waivers are available to PhD researchers enrolled in the European PhD in Law, Data and AI program. Applications will be evaluated through a competitive selection process. Applicants will be notified of the outcome by April 6 for early-bird submissions and by May 2 for ordinary registrations.
